METRICs Project awarded funding under TRANSCAN-3 JTC 2024
The project titled “METRICs – Combination Therapies Against Cancer: New Opportunities for Translational Research”, coordinated in Türkiye by Prof. Dr. Neşe Atabey, research group leader at the Izmir Biomedicine and Genome Center (IBG), has been selected for funding under the TRANSCAN-3 Joint Transnational Call (JTC) 2024. The project will be supported for a period of three years.
The project, to be carried out through the collaboration of seven international partners, including research teams from Germany, Spain, France, Austria, and Italy, aims to identify the determinants influencing radiotherapy and immunotherapy responses in cancer cells. Based on these findings, the project seeks to develop and test metabolism- and microbiota-based intervention strategies to enhance existing cancer treatments.
The project will be conducted at IBG under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Neşe Atabey. The Türkiye-based research team includes Dr. Yasemin Öztemur Islakoğlu (IBG), Prof. Dr. Ahmet Adil Esen and Prof. Dr. Ozan Bozkurt (Dokuz Eylül University), as well as Dr. Peyda Korhan, Dr. Oğuzhan Ayrancıoğlu, and Prof. Dr. Lütfiye Zümre Arıcan Alıcıkuş (Izmir Tınaztepe University).
