Fatma Kurul, a researcher at the İzmir Biomedicine and Genome Center (İBG), crowned her accomplishments in the fields of biomedical and optical sciences with several national and international awards received throughout 2025.
With her study titled “A Plasmonic Biosensor Pre-Diagnostic Tool for Familial Mediterranean Fever,” Kurul was awarded First Place in the 2025 Prof. Dr. Nazmi Özer Science Award by the Turkish Biochemical Society. The award recognized her innovative research on developing a plasmonic biosensor for the early diagnosis of Familial Mediterranean Fever (FMF). In addition, she received a €1,000 grant to support her participation in international scientific events.
Throughout the year, Kurul achieved further success in various scientific gatherings, earning first place in poster competitions at IZPHOTECH’25 Talks on Photonics Science and Technology, the 26th National Optics, Electro-Optics and Photonics Workshop, and the Optics & Photonics Summer School.
On the international stage, Kurul continued to excel by securing support from The International Society for Optics and Photonics (SPIE), granting her the opportunity to present her research at prestigious global conferences.
Fatma Kurul, continues her doctoral research under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Arif Engin Çetin, and continues her work in bio-sensor technologies, microfluidic systems and optical fields.
