Although following from behind, Coronavirus keeps on spreading rapidly in our country. In the fight against the Covid-19 outbreak, the timely and accurate detection of the SARS-Cov2 virus in humans has critical importance.
In order to be able to detect the virus more quickly, a Covid-19 Diagnosis Center was founded in Izmir with the initiation of Prof. Dr. Adil Mardinoğlu, President of the Health Institutes of Turkey under the Ministry of Health (TUSEB), and Prof. Dr. Nükhet Hotar, Rector of Dokuz Eylül University.
IBG has quickly provided the essential personnel and logistics support in the foundation of the infrastructure of the test center. Prof. Dr. Hülya Ayar Kayalı, Prof. Dr. Ş. Esra Erdal Bağrıyanık and Assoc. Prof. Güneş Özhan Baykan who are appointed research group leaders at IBG took part in a core team of six who worked round the clock to establish the center in a short time. Additionally, IBG post graduate students Berna Bıçak, Yusuf Kaan Poyraz, Özge Çark as well as graduate Canan Çeliker have been working as laboratory staff in the center by the appointment of TUSEB.
We would also like to thank the President of TUSEB Prof. Dr. Adil Mardinoğlu who kindly expressed his gratitude to our Director Prof. Dr. Mehmet Öztürk for the support IBG has provided. We are very proud to be alongside the university in the foundation of this center which serves for the health of our citizens. As the IBG family, we deeply greet all our colleagues who generously offered their contributions.
