Two prestigious science awards for IBG researcher Dr. Ece Çakıroğlu

Dr. Ece Çakıroğlu, a postdoctoral researcher at the İzmir Biomedicine and Genome Center (IBG), has been honored with two major national science awards in recognition of her pioneering research in the life sciences. Dr. Çakıroğlu received both the Molecular Biology Association (MBD) PhD Achievement Award 2023 and the Turkish Biochemical Society (TBD) Prof. Dr. Nazmi Özer Science Second Prize 2025.

Dr. Çakıroğlu was granted the 2023 MBD PhD Achievement Award for her doctoral thesis titled “Identification of Essential Genes Involved in the Development of Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma by CRISPR/Cas9-Based Negative Selection Screening”, conducted under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Şerif Şentürk at Dokuz Eylül University (DEU) and İzmir Biomedicine and Genome Center (IBG).

In addition, Dr. Ece Çakıroğlu received the 2025 TBD Prof. Dr. Nazmi Özer Science Second Prize from the Turkish Biochemical Society for her publication titled “Genome-wide CRISPR screen identifies BUB1 kinase as a druggable vulnerability in malignant pleural mesothelioma”, published in the journal Cell Death and Disease.
