We are currently establishing the Biobanking Core Facility at iBG-izmir that will represent Turkey as a national node in the Biobanking and Biomolecular Resources Research Infrastructure under the European Research Infrastructure Consortium (BBMRI –ERIC). The facility is a clinically oriented biobank that will provide basic and clinical researchers with specimens to be used for identifying novel biomarkers and drug candidates. The Biobanking Core Facility provides a unique opportunity to improve prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases and the quality of life. Our primary goals are as follows: Establishment of guidelines and standard operating procedures for the collection, storage, anonymization, quality control and sharing of biological material and related data, Generation of IT infrastructures for the use of patient registries and of clinical data, Expansion of the scope of biobanking in Turkey via the organization of training activities for both basic and clinical researchers.
