Scientific Communications Officer

Izmir Biomedicine and Genome Center is seeking a skilled Scientific Communications Officer working closely with IBG researchers and stakeholders to develop and implement science communication strategies to increase public awareness, engagement and understanding of scientific research developed at IBG. The candidate will be expected to supervise the planning and execution of communications strategies and provide the technical support necessary to implement them.  

Responsibilities:

•Collaborating with researchers to identify and highlight the key research findings and translating scientific jargon into accessible language for non-expert audiences.

•Supporting the implementation of communication activities in national and EU projects. 

•Review the content in our scientific communications materials and ensure they comply with regulatory scientific standards. 

•Creating engaging content for various mediums such as websites, social media, press releases, print materials, exhibits and videos to communicate research findings to a broad audience.

•Organizing and coordinating outreach events such as public lectures, school activities, workshops, exhibits and community engagement activities to promote the scientific research developed at IBG.

•Assist with researching topics, developing templates, and providing feedback to writers for scientific writing materials.

•Supporting the organization of scientific events such as scientific seminars, workshops and conferences.

•Develop informational content for our website and social media pages in the form of blog posts, infographics, and case studies.

•Provide administrative support to other units by Monitoring and evaluating activities for reporting and to ensure continuous improvement of IBG communication activities.

Requirements:

•Min. bachelor’s degree in a relevant research field (biological science, medicine etc.)

•2+ years of experience in science communication 

Skills and Competences:

•Excellent editorial experience and should come from a scientific background with strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills.

•Superb research, analytical, and problem-solving skills

•Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively.

•Ability to work autonomously and as an effective member of a team with minimal supervision.

•Social skills – ability to interact with audiences of all ages and diverse backgrounds (scientific and non-scientific).

•Communication skills – the ability to translate complex scientific content so that it can be understood by different audiences.

•Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and project management tools, such as Trello or Basecamp

•Strong grasp of social media trends and influencer landscape
